Alison joined YSTV in January 2023 — later than most of her cohort — but quickly became one of the society’s most active members. Recruited after a message from Max Roach asking if she could cam-op for YSTV Live, she more or less never left the studio after that. Within weeks she directed YSTV Live and took on camera roles across major productions including MMA Fight Night, YUSU Elections and Sabbs Come Dancing.
Just under 5 months of joining the society, she was elected unopposed as Head of Factual for 2023-2024, producing a remarkable volume of reports, somewhat contributing to the 77 daily posting streak. She also restarted the weekly factual meeting - FACTory. Her work earned her a nomination for Best Production Talent at NaSTA 2024.
For 2024–2025, Alison was elected Production Director, working closely with Sam Rooke (a duo jokingly referred to as “the parents of YSTV” that year). Together with their committee, they led the station to winning Gold Best Broadcaster at NaSTA 2025. Alison also received nominations for Best Contribution to Student Life (Love York Awards 2025) and Best Contribution to Student Media (YUMAs 2025).
Throughout her tenure she focused heavily on growing and retaining new members, running a highly successful welcome social during a period without a Social Secretary and developing extensive training resources — from camera workshops to genre-specific producer training and presenter guidelines. Known for “wearing the pants”, she also oversaw changes to YSTV’s production schedule, including shifting YSTV Live from weekly to bi-weekly to improve sustainability.
Notable productions she produced and directed include Pride 2023, too many YSTV Reports, Roses 2025, and one of her favourite works, Rally Against Reform Report, which won Best Feature at the YUMAs 2025.
