YSTV has a long history of supporting the BBC's Children In Need appeal, since at least the early 1990s and possibly earlier. Rather than simply re-broadcast the BBC's telethon the station has usual tried to mount its own, student-orientated broadcast on the same date in late November.
YSTV has little association with the other BBC fundraising initiatives, namely Comic Relief and Sport Relief. This is mainly because they tend to fall in the Easter and Summer holidays respectively. However in 2005 Red Nose Day was held on the same night as Elections 2005, and to mark the occasion presenters wore Red Nose Day 2005 badges, gave regular updates on the total raised so far and relayed the announcement that Edith Bowman had won "Comic Relief Does Fame Academy". 1989's results programme also appears to have coincided with the appeal - the only clip known to survive from that occasion features a presenter reading out results whilst wearing a red nose (as featured in Elections Past).
