Genre: Event Coverage
Broadcast: 1987
Producer(s): John Cornley & Steve Marinker

Election Night Live 87 was produced (and presented) by John Cornley and Steve Marinker. It was the first election night to be broadcast in colour.

It was broadcast mostly on location in Goodricke College and featured a large number of elements. Steve Marinker was links presenter for the entire evening. There was a panel of hacks and candidates, an interview set, a graphics presenter, live cameras in the dining hall, an "outspoken" commentator in the Physics concourse and a segment called "Let's Go To Bed" (introduced by a short sting of The Cure's song of the same name). This was a set with a bed where over-the-top interviews with candidates and YUSU-types would be conducted, some five years away of a similar concept being used on The Big Breakfast.

[Photos] of the production sent to YSTV in 2005 by Roger Moffatt show that crew members all had special Election Night Live 87 sweatshirts, complete with that year's logo!

In the Archive

For some reason the sizeable portion of Election Night Live 87 YSTV holds is located on the end of one of the tapes the 1994 programme is on! A further portion of the programme - including the closing section - was returned to YSTV as part of the Archive Hunt during the station's fortieth anniversary celebrations.
