In summer 2003, an awful lot of people graduated. Some more went off on sandwich course placements. Others that were returning from placements chose to concentrate on their degrees. Consequently, there were only four current active members left at the start of Autumn term 2003:

These four had the daunting task of recruiting a new generation of members and teaching them to make live television. Four became three in January 2004 when Chris Thornton left York to complete his fourth-year project on a placement, but ultimately they succeeded, and the continued success of YSTV is a testament to the work they put in during that period, recruiting the likes of Richard Ash, Rowan de Pomerai, Pete Nichols, Steve Walker, Drew Perry, Kate Rushworth, James Flinders and many others.

This wasn't the first such temporary low point in the station's membership, as described on the Ups and Downs of membership page.
