Idents are the short videos slotted in before and after our main programs in order to reinforce YSTV's channel identity. In practise they were very rarely shown until the availability of the [[Video Server]] in 2003. From 2005 the re-written scheduling system plays out idents automatically whenever there is a suitable gap in the schedules, thus considerably increasing their usage.

Many have had long lives, although as we only make about two a year most years this is probably a good thing. This is a category where YSTV has a long history of [[NaSTA]] success, winning either best or highly commended in five successive years from 2002-2006.
