A Canon XM2 miniDV camcorder, this was bought in Autumn 2006 as an upgrade to the ailing Sony DV and Panasonic DV cameras. The decision to buy such an expensive camera (£1500) was at the time controversial, but paid off in superb picture quality, a greater similarity of controls to the Panasonic MS5s in the studio and better control layout.
To ensure that the camera is not damaged by untrained users a system of camera training was instituted in order to make sure that those using it know what they are doing.
