It began as a joke, when YSTV members visited Toffs nightclub's Sunday gay night in November 2004. Despite the name it was perhaps the least gay "gay night" in the world due to York's not exactly cosmopolitan make-up. As a result the social started to happen regularly (the second and third visits were subtitled "The Re-Entry" and "The Threesome"). There were also spin-offs in the form of Little Gay Sunday and Big Gay Birthday.
