It was initially intended for its release to coincide with the opening of the new Anne Lister College at the University of York in 2021. However, this target was later adjusted so that filming of the opening of the college could be included in the documentary. | ||

At a YSTV production meeting on 2 March 2021, [[Liv Woodward]] and [[Meg Maguire]] pitched a YSTV report on the opening of the new Anne Lister College at the university. The idea was to do an initial report on the fact it was happening to build up to the fact it was happening, likely followed by another report when it actually did open. | |||
By the following week the idea had grown into a pitch for full blown documentary, which they were currently in the research process for, with plans to begin shooting at the start of Summer Term of 2021. | |||
By 16 March, the producers had made contact with DIVA Magazine, who were keen to have an involvement with the project. | |||
