A higher quality version of VHS, this seems to have made a late arrival at YSTV, when it replaced Umatic in around 2000. It was widely used for tape-tape editing until displaced by computer edit suites around 2003. It continues as a live program capture format, although now secondary to digital capture for repeats and archiving. Some outside broadcasts still rely on S-VHS as the primary recording format, with digital copies being produced from the S-VHS tape.
