Some of YSTV's oldest tapes cover Roses.  1981 and 1982's tournament was covere by Lancaster's student TV service (now long since defunct), and YSTV somehow came into the posession of two tapes of coverage.  Some of 1981's opening was re-used twenty years later for [[Roses 2001]] coverage.

Roses is the annual sporting competition between York and Lancaster. Each university take it in turns to host; York have the odd years, Lancaster the evens. YSTV rarely cover Roses when it's not hosted "at home".

The coverage YSTV provides has varied a lot of the years in terms of format and style, simply because there are rarely any major sport enthusiasts in the active membership (and any that were there would probably have other more pressing things to do that weekend than help film proceedings).
