Paul was a YSTV member between 1997 and 2001, although he didn't have much to do with the station in his final year due to having to concentrate on his degree.

After leaving York University he briefly worked at the BBC, then at recording studio, then as graphics operator on Brainteaser (Five) and now works for Lumina who provide graphics and display systems for game shows. In 2013 he started Soulsby Synthesizers, a company specialising in 8-bit synths.

Commodore Amiga

The Commodore Amiga (fondly refered to as the 'Amoeba') was YSTV's main graphics computer between {{unsure|before 1995}} and 2003, when it's increasing unreliability lead to it being replaced by [[Graphics PC]].

Mainly used for DPaint (basically a souped up bitmap editor with animation extensions) and Scala (a home video titling program which did scrolling credits and similar) along with a little custom YSTV software.

The important feature of the Amiga was that it had a Genlock unit, so that graphics could be superimposed over live video as well as producing full screen animation content. For a long time it existed only as a stand-alone machine, although in the early 2000s a PCMCIA network card was added so it could be networked to the rest of the station.

When remote control was necessary for exercises like [[Election Night Graphics]] it was usually provided via a serial port cable.

The first Amiga owned by the station was an Amiga 500 {{unsure|plus}}. This was later replaced by a donated Amiga 1200 in {{unsure|2000}}. This was substantially more powerful than the 500 featuring extra memory, AGA graphics and an accelerator board (which meant that it had to be raised from the desk).

Sound Space was YSTV's music review programme in the late 90s.

It featured music news, chart rundowns and the latest videos and ran for 3 series (only a couple of episodes were made in the 3rd series).

Series 3 was the only series to have an on screen presenter. Series 1 & 2 had a Acorn generated computer backgrounds with a voice over.

In {{unsure|2000}} there was also a special "Sound Space Live 5h", which as its name suggests was a live 5 hour show. Largely this was made up of improvised music from [[Paul Soulsby]] and presenter [[Peter Bowles]], including electronic keyboard music from a JenSX analogue keyboard which had been hastily repaired a few weeks earlier in the [[Techie room]].

There was an idea to bring the show back during Autumn 2003 because of the lack of other productions - however the advent of [[The Music Show]] meant this didn't happen.

Both series featured a 3D render of the shows title superimposed over an oscilloscope showing the waveform of the title music. This is interspersed with clips of music videos featured in the show.

Series 1 - Red text rendered on the Amiga. The music is Come In Number 51 Your Time Is Up by Pink Floyd. The original Umatic of these titles still exists. The VHS archive of this series is currently missing.

Series 2 and 3 - Yellow text rendered on the then new Apple edit suite. The music is One More Chance by the Pet Shop Boys. Various episodes of these series are archived on VHS.
