Liam is an active member of YSTV, primarily the YSTV computing team, since 2021 (Two-thousand and twenty-one). In the first (1st) few days of joining, he fixed the transmission light (broken), a curious machine out of service since when who knows when. Will Stirk then referenced toward him (Liam) as the "Arduino™ guy" for his use of an Arduino™ in the transmission light. In fact he loved the transmission light so much he made a habit of turning it on and off in rapid succession, just to show the raw power of Arduino™ technology.

Liam (in November 2021 (only a month after joining (18 years after the founding of Tesla Motors (Elon (Musk))))) was elected as the Deputy Computing Director after only joining the month before.

Not long after getting godmode on the YSTV servers, Liam started breaking anything that wasn't bullet proof: web servers (deleting Nginx doesn't appear to fix the problem), moss servers (docker?) and power supply servers, to name a few servers.

Connor.sanders:

Build up
For some time now Connor Sanders had been loitering in the background of YSTV, helping in minor degrees with the Computing Team (aka Rhys Milling), and spent much time without role, purpose or officially designated categorisation. Will Stirk, upon seeing this, felt it to become his personal mission to use all the peer pressure he could muster to get Connor on committee. It failed - at first. Then as time went on and Will did some archive things (...he must have done something) Connor took a noble stance and said he'd take on this burden. He would pursue the deep pains of writing text files and moving pieces of paper that proved too strenuous for those before him. Will was, clearly, convinced.

In the AGM of 2021, He rose to Head of Archives as successor of Will Stirk, himself successor of Joseph Wharfe. The state of the archives was in poor condition, with everything - the wikis, the docs, the shelf - all covered in dust, untouched and undocumented. After hours and hours of speeches and debates, the archives nomination speech went as follows: "So I'd like to be head of archives..." - and that was that.

Elected
Archive meetings and libraries
First call of action... Archive meeting: 3am the day of AGM. 3 attendants and no useful material discussed.

Second call of action... Archive meeting 2: a more reasonable time on some more reasonable date. 2 attendants and lots of ideas.

Task 1: Contact the library. Now this sounds like a simple enough task but what you may fail to see is the degree to which bureaucracy and neglect push such simple things into lifelong efforts. However, after a series of emails, the library finally caved, and accepted the deal. Or, really, they accepted right away but just took forever to respond to emails.

Task 2: Bring in the box(es). In order to transport tapes, boxes were needed. And after a long discussion we finally got ONE, for close inspection. It proved to be true and honest, so we ordered some more. Then, following many, many delays we got a delivery of no less than 46 boxes. Cardboard boxes... Big ones. And what else is there for a man to do with such quantity of boxes than found the Archive Fort, as Connor took it upon himself to do.

Task 3: Transport the boxes. This remains in the future so we shall see

Wikis and docs
Now of all the things to fall to the side, the wikis were the more tedious. You may now notice there are sitemaps on these pages - this is no mere accident. In fact it was around 2-3 days of continued pain, getting CategoryTree to work properly and recategorising hundreds of articles, by hand. In the end, we now have 2 wikis that work, are traversable, and are as clean as can be. Thank you Connor.

Now you may also notice that some pages say "this revision does not exist". I have no idea why this happens or why it's there but, as far as I can tell, it always has been. We've had history lost forever on here and sadly we can't get it back.

Moving the boxes
Months have passed since the initial attempt to get this sorted but finally, on October 20th 2021, the tapes are out of the studio. In 40 something cardboard boxes, labelled and organised precisely so we can request exactly the right tapes, our archives have been moved to the library. Next step is digitization - the hard part. But the good thing is we no longer have to wait around for things to be moved; all we have now is a need to get things done as fast as we can.
About
As an undeserved recipient of the 2020-21 "Rhys' Bitch Award", Connor found time better spent under the volumous, flammable goods that sat between 2 fire escapes, than in the sad delusion of a YSTV "computing team".

About
The Triple Threat is the collective that binds together Connor Sanders (not in computing team), Dom Hall (very actively not in computing team) and Rhys Milling (computing team). They may get a vast amount of sysadmin done but make no mistake they hate each other with a heavy passion, spanning from a fundamental disagreement of how computers are supposed to run and the fact that Rhys is Welsh.

Formation
This group has its origins began back when Dom was Rhys' <del>bitch</del> loving assistant, carefully translating Rhys' wild incoherence into full proper sentences, and Connor was just some guy saying "how hard can emails be" to URY's computing team. After some personal development time the 3 found themselves in drawn together at each YSTV computing meeting; from there a certain dynamic appeared. First, Rhys would think of an idea, fail to express it in any sensible manner and use words like "ProRes", "Domain Joined" and "Open Source" to make it sound cool. Then, some say by instinct, Dom would immediately shut that idea down, on the basis that it makes no sense at all. In response, Connor would say "no Dom, it sounds good. I like it", but who can say why. Naturally, this caused the gentleman to reach a basis of argument, all fighting purely to oppose each other for principle sake.

On occasion, Connor might have chosen to agree with Dom, naturally for the sake of scientific understanding, leading to a series of angry phone calls from Mr Milling. "Why are you writing spreadsheets for Dom? You're ruining my whole web ecosystem with your well designed, intuitive Excel design!" and so on and so on.

Examples of questionable ideas
* Rhys: "We should record all the cameras of all the streams for Roses 2021"
* Rhys: "I need a new subdomain for a file sharing site but 'files', 'filestore' and 'cloud' are all taken! I better use 'data'"
* Dom: "We should use a forum to replace Slack, Trello (god forbid) and all other communication systems"
* Connor: "We should make a forum solely using bash"
* Connor: Abandon an entire edit PC rather than move a monitor

Examples of questionable behaviour
Dom Hall
* Dom enters a room<br />"Have you fixed it yet?"<br />Refuses to elaborate further<br />Leaves

Connor Sanders
* Everything involving his bash scripts (except for their continued, proven utility)

Rhys Milling
* Call time 2 hours before we're live<br />Shows up 5 minutes before we're live<br />"Right let's completely change what we're doing"
This site is an attempt to gather as much information about YSTV's history as we can, by throwing it open to you the members, ex-members, friends and admirers! Please do add information, images and stories, please do read and enjoy and please do get in touch. It was started on our 40th Birthday.

The usual rules of a wiki apply (I'm sure you've all used Wikipedia). Basically, no untruths, no slander, no nastiness. If you're not sure about something (hazy memory?!) mark it clearly with unsure and someone else might be able to confirm for you. If you have particular information requests, make a page with a request and someone might just help you out. Most of all, enjoy!
In the ancient days of YSTV it was always tedious to ██████████████████████████ so Rhys Milling, being the saint he is, installed a simple Tor Exit Node in the YSTV network, to help us out. And for a while things went smoothly! All until the day Rhys █████████████████ and became a █████████████████, which led to us "temporarily" moving the Tor Exit Node onto a Raspberry pi, for quick removal. No problem - even Dom was happy! But the man got anxious, fell ██████████████ screaming █████████████████████. Even told Dom to "██████████████ his ████████████████ ████████████ and keep it there!". He decided it had to be gone. No more Tor Exit Node on the ITS network. What a shame.

But Dom wasn't happy. Something had to be done. So as a compromise we ████████████████████████████████████████████ - you can find the technical details www.██████████████████████.net

Over the years many mysterious things have happened at YSTV, or they may not have. Rumours run wild and take on lives of their own. Details grow foggy in the mists of time. We cannot confirm or deny any of these events truly happened, and neither should you.
On a camping trip that may or may not have happened, at some unknown period in history, and may or may not have involved YSTV members, there may or may not have been discussions about turning one of the tents into, or not into, an orgy tent. So who could say whether or not it even occurred? All we know is that the sound we may or may not have heard may or may not have been very enthusiastic snoring.

Sound Team Marriage
A YSTV Calendar entry suggests that Sound Team may have taken steps to formalise their partnership in the eyes of the Lord. Evidence that points towards this having actually took places is scarce - Joseph Wharfe himself is listed as Not attending, and even Andrew Battersby is only Maybe attending. And it's dubious as to whether anyone who claimed to be Attending was even in York at the time. Still, many claim that when you see their eyes meet, the truth is obvious.

Build up
For some time now Connor Sanders had been loitering in the background of YSTV, helping in minor degrees with the Computing Team (aka Rhys Milling), and spent much time without role, purpose or officially designated categorisation.

About
Will Stirk (aka, Stirky) is an electronic engineering student that joined YSTV at the start of the 2019/20 academic year. With relatively no experience in any aspect of television, and after missing the Give it a Go session due to alarm clock related issues, he decided to throw himself into the deep end with nothing but a C100 and a tripod. This led to an interest in the role of camera operating, with him spending the next term and a half filling in various cam oping roles on several productions.

It was mid-way through his second term that he began considering running for a position during AGM. It was around this time that the current Head of Archives, Joseph Wharfe, stepped down from his position, triggering a by-election. Will ran for the position, winning against several other talented members. He soon realised that this was probably a mistake, as the role wasn't as simple as he was hoping it to be. He continued his role as Head of Archives until the end of the 2020-21 academic year.

It was then during Roses 2021 that he all of a sudden found himself as a technical lead with the bare minimum of OB training. After this near death experience, he stepped down as Head of Archives and somehow ended up running for Technical Director during elections. He had now completed his YSTV dream of becoming one of the techies, a decision he almost immediately regretted, as at the time, and I quote "everything is fucked".

It was decided that a short break from YSTV was needed over the summer of 2021 to get his priorities in order. However, he spontaneously returned during week 3, barged into the studio, ripped out all the rigging that Computing had done and re-did it all properly along with Andy. It was during this chaotic evening that tech underwent a rebranding into the Techy Tubbies.

OH FUCK”

It is said that if you’re walking through James College, late at night, when the moon is high, you can hear the distant yells and rants of three very sleep deprived techies losing their god damn minds.

These three techies are known as Will Stirk, Ben Allen and Andrew Waddle. This trio of deranged idiots make up the TechyTubbies, a name which Stirky came up with whilst desperately trying to re-rig the studio, as apparently his method of venting frustration is shitty humour, much to the pleasure of Mr Waddle.

As of writing this, only Stirky and Andy are aware of this tech rebrand, but I’m sure Ben will find out sooner or later.

Origins
I will add something to this eventually, just can't think of anything funny right now. Might have a monster and come back to this.

The TechyTubby Think Tank
One of the key things that binds these three morons together is their incredible ability to come up with the most absurd, silly and out right dangerous ideas whilst sat in a room together (or sometimes when Ben is in the shower. I promise that’s not as weird as it sounds.) Here is a list of some of these death traps.

The Canon Cannon
So apparently, proper sports broadcasts have cameras on tracks or cables that can whip up and down the side of a pitch or track. The trio decided, how hard could it be to build one of these, Ben has an old electronic car with a nice motor in it, Stirky can vaguely solder, Andy has a camera, and FetSoc probably has some rope or something. This started as a genuine idea, until someone brought up the question of how fast they could get it go, which then lead onto the question of what would happen if an unsuspecting athlete were to come into contact with a C100 travelling at Mach 3. This may get built, but will probably just remain as a conversation topic to confuse freshers.

The Titanic
When Ben showers, the schizophrenia kicks in and the voices tell him things. One day, the voices told him that a short sketch based on the titanic would be a cool idea. They also told him that this should involve a set that actually tilts, using a concoction of scaffolding and jacks. He immediately informed the other two of the voices plan and they set about discussing the possibility. It was quickly agreed that this might be possible. However, the room fell silent when location was mentioned, as this project would require space: which none of them had, estates probably wouldn’t be happy about a death trap on campus, and no one seemed keen to answer when Stirky used the words “lighting rig” and “lateral forces” in the same question.

The Rocket Powered GoPro
Another late night studio session somehow lead to the discussion on “What is the biggest rocket you can legally buy?” and “What would happen if I strapped a GoPro to it?”. Having then realised that the best place to launch a rocket is Walmgate Stray, which just so happens to be next to the military barracks, the discussion moved onto “Can we build a potato gun, and launch a GoPro from that?”, which is apparently more legal than a rocket, despite having the word “gun” in it. After discussing this for a while, and having a very interesting chat about GoPro buffers and video loss, the idea was shelved for the time being, only to be brought out on special occasions and birthdays.

48 Hour
In 1988, YSTV won a world record by live streaming for 27 hours straight with a single director. This world record no longer exists, but Andy and Stirky decided to revive the idea after a couple failed attempts from older YSTV members. However, in their lunacy, decided to smash any other records by streaming non-stop for 48 hours. Now all they needed was someone insane enough to direct a stream for 48 hours without sleeping. Luckily, such a being exists, and his name is Ben Allen. This is genuinely happening (or may have already happened depending on when I finish writing this pointless page). However, it may result in the Techy-Tubbies going from a trio to a duo. RIP Ben

7 metre Lighting Stand
Matt Ward-Perkins wanted an aerial shot for sports stuff and YUSU wouldn’t give us a cherry picker, so the dumb asses came up with this. We put it on grant, and no one has said stopped us yet, so I guess it’s happening. Anyone know what the terminal velocity of a C100 is?

The War
It is well known that since the dawn of man, tech and computing departments have raged war on each other, bringing down pain and suffering to any production or admin department caught in the brutal crossfire. There is no exception to this within the hellscape of YSTV.

It is not uncommon to find members of Triple Threat grumbling and moaning whilst the TechyTubbies test the tensile stress of RAM sticks. These incidents are usually caused by the computing lads doing something unacceptable and unholy whilst unsupervised by the techies (usually because said techies are catching up on lost sleep rather than running OBs). Such cases include but are not limited to, slapping a Video Assist on an AC90, claiming that the AC90 is better in low light than the C100, and suggesting that an AC90 is a viable substitute for a cinema camera. There does appear to be a pattern here, doesn’t there?

All this is due to one lovely, but stubborn, Welsh bastard who has a real vendetta against functioning equipment. The Techy-Tubbies appreciate the work Mr Milling has put into the YSTV backend, but would kindly ask that he refrains from touching there stuff inappropriately, as they will; A) piss on the server. B) Bring back Stream 4. Or C) Buy another C100.

The remaining two members of Triple Threat are not really as much of a nuisance as their leader, as Dom just seems permanently exasperated at the lack of any real coordination or communication within YSTV departments, and I haven’t seen Connor in a while, so I’m gonna assume he’s dead. RIP Connor
About
As an undeserved recipient of the 2020-21 "Rhys' Bitch Award", Connor found time better spent under the volumous, flammable goods that sat between 2 fire escapes, than in the sad delusion of a YSTV "computing team". A computing team where he'd form one third of the infamous "Triple Threat": a trio of emotionally rotund sysadmins who believed wildly different philosophies about every single part of their job. Connor was a person of absolute minimalism (dwm? Self-configured arch install? Need I say more?). While Rhys (DJ) Milling might download an outdated, abandoned github repo ("but Connor, it's written in Go!" he would say) and Dom "have you finished it yet" Hall might find some "enterprise", proprietary, bloated subscription service riddled with spyware (which wouldn't be so bad if the damn thing actually worked), 90% of the time the obvious solution is just a bash script. And surprise surprise it always (eventually) works.

While you may find him nestled in a fist fight, mid computing meeting, his actual role is Head of Archives, where he dedicates his life towards ignoring emails and fixing the many issues with mediawiki (sometimes with an excess of anger and fear).

What words can be said about two Persons Of Interest who find themselves united under the title of "Trolley Team"? Whatever they may be, Joe Radford felt sure I knew them. For all I know for sure, is there was once I time, a day even, when Sophie_Bolwell-Davies and perhaps even a trolley found themselves in the company of a Will Stirk.

About
The Triple Threat is the collective that binds together Connor Sanders (not in computing team), Dom Hall (very actively not in computing team) and Rhys Milling (computing team).

Helen first encountered YSTV at Fresher's Fair 2012, when she saw a big, shiny camera and a microphone-wielding Emma Bew (see 2012 Freshers Montage). Having hovered around for a few moments, trying not to look creepy, she eventually asked to be interviewed – mostly in order to get a closer look at what seemed like something straight out of the BBC. She signed up to the email list, but spent most of her first term running around trying out every society she could and subconsciously leaving the best for last.

During late Autumn Term she signed up to be a camera op and participant (not at the same time) on the critically acclaimed magic show, ‘Pushing the Senses’. Following the kind encouragement of Chris Wall and Peter Eskdale, Helen decided that YSTV was something she wanted to be a part of. During the start of the Spring Term, having attended a few station meetings, crewed for ‘Monday Evening Live’ and participated in various training days, she was beginning to consider the possibility of starting her own show. One night, inspiration struck: whilst thinking about her essay on the Brontës, she suddenly realised that she could combine her love of literature with television – thus, the series ‘Lights on Literature’ was born.

She became the Assistant Production Director on the 15th May 2013 – and very much enjoyed the role, despite its involvement of the term ‘Ass Prod’. Although she did not fulfill Chris Parker’s requests to fetch him a coffee, she learnt a lot from being involved with the committee and the station’s overall production department. She produced her first live show in November 2013, YSTV’s annual broadcast of ‘Children In Need 2013’ - an experience definitely worth the late nights.

In the Autumn term by-elections of 2013, she was elected Production Director, happy in the knowledge that YSTV will always be her real home while at university. (Although of course she has never slept in the studio...) Highlights during the year include helping Kieron Moore to organise/edit NaSTA submissions and Best Broadcaster 2014, running a series of edit training sessions, organising a trip for YSTV members to see Countdown being filmed at MediaCity and nicking old set from TFTV, amid many other adventures.

In the Summer elections of 2014 she became the Station Director of YSTV, following the very kind encouragement of a terrific bunch of friends, and so far hasn't burned the place down.

For an unknown reason, Helen is fairly notorious when it comes to socials/nights out, and the day following an event her words may be found all over the Quotes Board. She is reported to have been kicked out of the Willow several times, and would probably be embarrassed to have it known that this was for the - perfectly understandable - activity of napping. Following the consumption of alcohol she is more active in literally prodding people, and has a penchant for arm-wrestling. She is an avid fan of hit show ‘Bargain Mad’.

Credits include:

*Pushing the Senses – E3: Hearing (Camera Op, Participant), E4: Taste (Camera Op)
*Monday Evening Live – Camera Op, VT Op, Graphics, Floor-Manager, Social Media, Vision-Mixer
*Roses 2013 – Camera Op, Presenter
*Lights on Literature – Producer, Presenter, Editor
