Adam exists.

In his second year at YSTV, Adam existed even harder and got recognized for it by winning Highly Commended for Best Behind-The-Scenes Contribution at the YUMAs 2019.

Adam also served as Computing Director for two years, becoming heavily involved in the station's technical operations while pushing to spread Linux to all YSTV computers. He also helped out in other positions on several productions such as camera operator, sound operator, and editor.

In his third year, Adam stopped existing so much after being murdered by his degree.
Welcome to the YSTV History Wiki!

This site is an attempt to gather as much information about YSTV's history as we can, by throwing it open to you the members, ex-members, friends and admirers! Please do add information, images and stories, please do read and enjoy and please do get in touch. It was started on our 40th Birthday.

The usual rules of a wiki apply (I'm sure you've all used Wikipedia). Basically, no untruths, no slander, no nastiness. If you're not sure about something (hazy memory?!) mark it clearly with unsure and someone else might be able to confirm for you. If you have particular information requests, make a page with a request and someone might just help you out. Most of all, enjoy!

Getting started
Never been to a wiki before? See our quickstart guide, or read about how to write your first article.

Requests and related information…

* We have lots of photos from the station, but most of them don't say what or who they are of. Have a look!
* Want to know something? Ask away…

How to help
Not sure what to write about? Here are some pointers as to how you can contribute to the wiki:

* Write something about one of the wanted pages (even if it's just a few sentences!
* Introduce links pointing to any orphaned pages.
* Help with categorising uncategorised pages.

The only category at the annual NaSTA awards which is created specifically for the awards rather than taken from our broadcast output. In a maximum of ten minutes of video, each station has to sell it's claim to be the best student television station in the country. This is normally done by cutting together excerpts from every production made in the previous year, with a mixture of live sound and music used to glue the whole lot together.

The edits produced have subsequently been used to promote the station at many other events, although the use of copyrighted music has prevented their being released on the website or broadcast regularly. In this role they are successors to the previous Review of the Year edits. Best Broadcaster edits exist for every year from 1998.

Adam.Birtles: Abusing <abbr> is bad.

The 2019 AGM was, to quote the then Station Director, "a one-night evening of hell". Following the standard officer reports and financial report, this AGM was the first time the Constitution and the Policy had been updated since 2015. While amendments had been passed in the intervening years, none of them had actually found their way into the official versions of the documents on the Docs Wiki. This left a rather significant gulf between how YSTV was supposed to be run and how it was actually run.

This sorry state of affairs had not gone unnoticed by YSTV's membership. However, nothing had been done about it until The Dynamic Duo resolved to fix it. They came forth with a laundry list of proposals that would ensure these essential documents were up to date, for this year at least.

In addition to the above, a number of other changes were proposed. These included minor changes to the officership, a meaningless change of syntax, and fundamentally overestimating YSTV's control over the House of Lords.

Constitutional amendments
Ordering and numbering of amendments has been slightly modified to make better sense.
|-
| 1.
| Sam Hance
| Added an officer position that is responsible for directing YSTV's internal historical preservation efforts.
| colspan=4
| While it was agreed upon that this should happen (vote of 27 to 0), it was also agreed upon that the correct place for this was the Policy. Sam was to decide on the official wording for the Policy and bring it forward at the next admin meeting. This led to the creation of Head of Archives.
|-
| 2.
| Joseph Wharfe
| Made the (as of yet) appointed positions of Head of Sound and Deputy Head of Sound into consitutionally recognised officer positions.
| 9 || 12 || 3 || no
| Everyone besides Joe agreed that this was absurd.
|-
| 3.
| Joseph Wharfe
| Granted Andrew Battersby a life peerage with the role of Head of Sound.
| colspan="4"
| rowspan="2" | Not considered since the roles were not made official. And no, Joe, YSTV does not have the power to grant peerages.
|-
| 5.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Updated the Constitution to recognise that YSTV is now a media group instead of a society.
| 28 || 0 || 0 || yes
|
|-
| The Dynamic Duo
| Replaced all gendered terms and pronouns with gender-neutral ones
| 28 || 0 || 0 || yes
|
|-
| 7.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Specified the actual requirements for membership of the media group.
| 20 || 0 || 4 || yes
| It was agreed that the amendment should match what the YUSU media charter's requirements for membership
|-
| 8.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Removed mentions of specific events from the aims and objectives of the media group.
| 22 || 0 || 2 || yes
| One of the mentioned events, Woodstock, was no longer a thing.
|-
| 9.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Added GDPR adherence to the media group's code of practice.
| 22 || 0 || 2 || yes
|-
| 10.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Fixed the wording of section 4.12 (prohibiting peer pressure) to apply to media group members rather than YUSU members as a whole.
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
| Fun fact: YSTV can't reasonably be held responsible for the actions of YUSU's wider membership.
|-
| 11.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Added the Deputy Station Director to the list of signatories.
| 20 || 3 || 0 || yes
| The previous AGM had added both the DSD and Production Director to the list of signatories. However, it was decided that the latter did not need this responsibility.
|-
| 12.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Corrected "one of which" to "one of whom" in section 8.3 (requiring two signatories for an expense claim)
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Extremely important
|-
| 13.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Required all on committee to be current students at the University of York and meet the earlier established membership requirements
| colspan="4"
| Not considered because it conflicted with YUSU's rules on the matter.
|-
| 14.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Actually gave the Policy the authority to establish additional officers.
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Yeah, we too were surprised to find out that non-committee officers had been unconstitutional all this time.
|-
| 15.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Specified Single Transferable Vote as the voting system in elections.
| 23 || 1 || 0 || yes
|
|-
| 16.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Allowed annual committee elections to be held as separate event to the AGM.
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Like many of these amendments, this had been happening for years. It happens this way because otherwise the AGM would take all day.
|-
| 17.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Allowed by-elections to happen in weekly admin meetings
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Previously, the constitution required than an EGM be held for by-elections
|-
| 18.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Required the committee to officially and automatically step down at the beginning of the annual elections meeting
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
|
|-
| 19.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Clarified that members may hold an officer position as a pair.
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
| Previously joint holding was done but was undefined and unregulated. This amendment originally listed specific roles that could be jointly held. After much debate, it was voted to allow this to apply to all officer positions in a vote of 23 to 1.
|-
| 20.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Required that both joint office holders step down in the event of one of them stepping down.
| 20 || 2 || 2 || yes
|
|-
| 21.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Specified that, for the purposes of (rare) committee-only votes, joint office holders would have a single vote between them.
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
| This does not affect normal votes, wherein all members get a single vote.
|-
| 22.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Regulated the resolution of irreconcilable disagreements between joint office holders.
| 21 || 0 || 3 || yes
| The answer is a committee-only vote.
|-
| 23.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Clarified responsibilities of joint officer holders towards deputies.
| 8 || 4 || 9 || yes
|
|-
| 24.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Clarified accountability of joint officer holders and their responsibilities towards each other.
| 20 || 0 || 4 || yes
|
|-
| 25.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Set out how intervention should occur in the case of dysfunction between joint office holders.
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
|
|-
| 26.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Made the President (Station Director) responsible for keeping the station alive.
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
|
|-
| 27.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Set out rules about who should attend media committee.
| colspan="4"
| Not considered because it conflicted with YUSU's rules on the matter.
|-
| 28.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Moved responsibility for venue and room booking from the Secretary to the President.
| 4 || 8 || 11 || no
|
|-
| 29.
| Made the Secretary responsible for managing official requests on social media.
| 18 || 1 || 4 || yes
|
|-
| 30.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Made the Secretary responsible for organising the AGM in tandem with the President.
| 21 || 1 || 2 || yes
|
|-
| 31.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Removed responsibility of organising sponsorship for the media group from the Treasurer.
| 21 || 0 || 3 || yes
|
|-
| 32.
| Made the Treasurer responsible for simply overseeing the budgets for events and productions rather than actually creating them.
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
|
|-
Policy Amendments
Because people weren't really aware that there was a difference, some changes to the policy were also passed during the hell that was constitutional amendments.

Edwin Barnes prompted a review of the roles of Head of Scripted and Head of Factual. It was agreed that they'd be kept and jointly replace the Assistant Production Director (vote of 26 to 0, 2 abstaining). Edwin also proposed abolishing the role OB and Events Coordinator (passed, 25 to 0, 3 abstaining) and removing the requirement to follow OFCOM rules (passed, 20 to 8, no abstentions).

Adam Birtles suggested abolising the role of Webmaster (passed, 24 to 0, 1 abstaining). He also brought up that neither the Constitution nor the Policy say anything about officers who take a sandwich year or leave of absence but by this point everyone was exhausted, no one had a clear idea what should happen, and no one (not even Adam) really cared enough for it to matter at that moment.

A bunch more policy amendments (like changing it to be gender-neutral) happened at the following week's Admin Meeting.

Adam.Birtles: Oh goodness, this took me way too long to write.

They came forth with a laundry list of proposals that would ensure these essential documents were up to date, for this year at least (and, indeed, at most).

In addition to the above, a number of other changes were proposed. These included minor changes to the officership, a meaningless change of syntax, and fundamentally overestimating YSTV's control over the House of Lords.

Constitutional amendments
Ordering and numbering of amendments has been slightly modified to make better sense.
|-
| 2.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Specified the actual requirements for membership of the media group.
| 20 || 0 || 4 || yes
| It was agreed that the amendment should match what the YUSU media charter's requirements for membership
|-
| 8.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Removed mentions of specific events from the aims and objectives of the media group.
| 22 || 0 || 2 || yes
| One of the mentioned events, Woodstock, was no longer a thing.
|-
| 9.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Added GDPR adherence to the media group's code of practice.
|-
| 10.
| The Dynamic Duo
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
| Fun fact: YSTV can't reasonably be held responsible for the actions of YUSU's wider membership.
|-
| 11.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Added the Deputy Station Director to the list of signatories.
| 12.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Corrected "one of which" to "one of whom" in section 8.3 (requiring two signatories for an expense claim)
| Extremely important
|-
| 14.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Actually gave the Policy the authority to establish additional officers.
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Yeah, we too were surprised to find out that non-committee officers had been unconstitutional all this time.
|-
| 15.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Specified Single Transferable Vote as the voting system in elections.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Allowed annual committee elections to be held as separate event to the AGM.
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Like many of these amendments, this had been happening for years. It happens this way because otherwise the AGM would take all day.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Allowed by-elections to happen in weekly admin meetings
| 24 || 0 || 0 || yes
| Previously, the constitution required than an EGM be held for by-elections
|-
| 18.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Required the committee to officially and automatically step down at the beginning of the annual elections meeting
|
|-
| The Dynamic Duo
| Clarified that members may hold an officer position as a pair.
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
|
|-
| Specified that, for the purposes of (rare) committee-only votes, joint office holders would have a single vote between them.
| 23 || 0 || 1 || yes
| This does not affect normal votes, wherein all members get a single vote.
|-
| 22.
| The Dynamic Duo
| Regulated the resolution of irreconcilable disagreements between joint office holders.

The FLOPPYs are a joke awards event started in 2006 in response to the dreadfulness of the YUMAs that year. They were created by Matthew Tole and Sarah Leese, the new and outgoing Station Directors at the time. They were named the FLOPPYs because that was the best object they could come up for prizes - floppy disks. After some discussion, it became an acronym: For the Love Of the People and Programmes of YSTV.

The awards continued after 2006 with many regular categories, including Nicest Member. New awards were also introduced including The Bew Award (for Doing a Bew), named after Emma Bew and the Alex Muller Award for Presentness. In recent years, the floppy disks have been augmented with (uncategorised) Deeply Valued Departed discs for the graduating members. Traditionally the awards are organised by the new and outgoing Station Directors and the Social Secretary, and held upstairs at Evil Eye.

Awards by Year
The point of the FLOPPYs is to give every active member at least one award.

Hui-Ling Phillips joined YSTV in Freshers' Fair 2016, her second year of study (even after wanting to in first year but being too intimidated). Mostly because Sam Willcocks shoved a flyer into her hand (after her friends blanked him) and later, at YSTV's stall, got very enthusiastic about tech as he was the only tech member at that time. Luckily it turned out she was interested in the tech aspect.

She soon started spending most evenings at YSTV for many hours. Surprisingly not for shows in the beginning, but to help out with The Great Untangling of 2016.

Her housemates assumed if she was missing for what would be worryingly long periods of time, that she was just spending all of her time at YSTV and sleeping (presumably) at home in-between going to YSTV. On one occasion when leaving the house (to go to YSTV) a housemate exclaimed "I haven't seen you in like a week!" and in a group chat her nickname was set to Mike TV because TV was all' she talked about.

YSTV is possibly the best thing Hui-Ling decided to do in her academic career.

Less notably; her degree is currently in Physics and despite YSTV taking up all of her free time, is going well.
}}
Tom McGonagle is the current Treasurer at YSTV. He was also Commercial Director from the middle of spring term 2019 through to the 2019 Elections in the Summer. Aside from vision mixing and directing live shows, he is also known for helping out with tech, especially lighting, and Production of videos such as the York Consulting Conference and Elections Hustings Coverage, amongst other programmes. Tom is part of a new wave of freshers who had never experienced the 20th century; something many members are still coming to terms with.

Head of Lighting
Sub-teams became a thing in 2018-19 leading to the emergence of the infamous Sound Team, Camera Team, Tape Team and then Lighting Team. As the only person who actually knows how to use the YSTV lighting desk, Tom asked the Tech Directeor and Station Director if he could have the unofficial title, leading to him becoming "Head of Lighting".

Commercial Director
Entering the role through a March 2019 by-election, Tom has started organising commercial conference shoots and merch orders. One particular focus was organizing sponsorship for Roses 2019. His term in this role ended in the 2019 summer elections.

Treasurer
Tom McGonagle became the treasurer of YSTV at the Summer 2019 YSTV elections. It seems an interest of finance runs in the bloodline with his father being a chartered accountant.

URY
As YSTV started engaging with URY more in 2019, Tom started to present TV on the Radio. As well as this, he joined Sam Hance to make their radio show 'If You've Heard This, It's Already Too Late'.

Presenting
McGonagle was well known at the start of first year for one of his many catchphrases, 'I'd like to present' among many variations. Despite his more current emphasis being on producing, directing and vision mixing shows, Tom presented the pilot to Riddle Me This, and appeared regularly on YSTV Sport. It is arguably through his efforts to present that he became involved in various areas of production.

Quotes
Soon after joining YSTV, it became clear that Tom would be quote a force to be reckoned with - at the end of his first year he is likely the most quoted YSTV member of all time. While his original appearances on the Quotes Board were due to his lacking grasp of the meaning of the word muff, he has since become famous for his accidental sexual innuendos.
He is known to say "Please don't quotesboard that" which of course has been documented on the Quotes Board.

Trivia
- As of 03/06/2019, Tom's only experience with the Shrek cinematic universe was a Spanish-language dub of the first film. He is a bit embarrassed about this.
- He features heavily in the Behind the Streams episode on 2019, giving an awkward tour around the team's residence and explaining how to make tea.

Stephanie (usually simply called “Steph“) joined YSTV in autumn 2017, taking over the position of OB Coordinator shortly after. She then became the Station Manager (formerly Deputy Station Director) at the 2018 elections and currently, she holds the position of Station Director along with her sidekick Thomas Schubert (the other half of the Dynamic Duo). They are the first to run YSTV jointly.

Steph has been involved in countless productions, usually as producer or camera OP, but occasionally as director, writer and editor. She is officially recognised as the nicest person to ever enter the YSTV studio, and is a true Yorkshire lass.

History
Stephanie enrolled at the University of York in 2017 as a student of the “Film and TV Production” course – making her one of the pioneers of the “TFTV Revolution”, in which film students gradually took over control of the station. Due to her very vocal love for programs like “Top Gear”, and her alleged appreciation for YSTV’s work before she came to uni, it did not take her long to become a fully-fledged member of the station, being elected OB coordinator in the by-election of 2017 after a heart-warming speech.

Most of Steph’s early work during her first term consisted of the weekly filming of Coffee House Sessions, the consumption of weekly Courtyard Nachos and just being generally lovely. Later that year, she made her first experience with live streams as vision mixer on the infamous Christmas Massacre, all while dressed up as a happy snowman. At the time, she assessed the massacre as probably the weirdest thing she ever did in her life – a statement that she would reconsider several times during the next years.

With the following terms, Steph got even more into her own as the heart of YSTV, while building friendships with both old and new members. Her image as the station’s sweetheart was further established through her inability to properly swear (leading to her catchphrase: “Chuff me””).

She continued to work on several key productions like Elections Results Night 2018, Unibrass 2018, Hidden and Roses 2018, before eventually being elected as Station Manager when she ran spontaneously at the 2018 AGM. In this position, she heavily focused on organizing the archives, accessibility, mental health and well-being. Due to her kind nature and openness, Steph was the first point of contact for many members to talk about their issues.

Having made valuable yet frustrating experience producing an OB unit all by herself during Roses, Steph continued taking on a more active role as producer for example for “The SU” and “The Wizard of Oz”. The later production scarred Steph for life, as its editing process took several weeks and bored both her and Thomas Schubert out of their minds. But on the bright side, through their shared pain her and Tom went on to form the self-proclaimed Dynamic Duo.

At the end of her first year, Steph spent a whole day filming “Guide to Campus” – a weird and comedic take on a campus tour hosted by Richard Jones and written and produced by Steph and Joe Wharfe.

During summer, Steph mostly stayed in York with a few other YSTV members, while working on several productions to keep up the constant stream of content YSTV put out at the time. For example, Steph produced several episodes of YSTV Reports.

Most importantly, Stephanie produced and edited her pet project: the coverage of Micklegate Run 2018 – a massive production during summer time. This meant several days of work and organising the crew; and many many months of heavy editing. During this, Steph proved her talent as director and producer once again.

At the beginning of her second year, Steph started working on her new productions such as “Dad’s Army”, “Copy and Paste” and "Please Sir, There's Been A Murda!". She was then elected jointly as Station Director along with Thomas Schubert at the 2019 Elections (despite them both being the reason behind the incredibly long 6 hour AGM the previous week when they passed The 52 Amendments to bring YSTV back up to date).

She is known for her excellent organisational skills and reliability. While staying in York over the summer of 2019, she continued working on cleaning and re-organising the studio, while also acting as the chair of Freshers' Committee 2019. Additionally, she was also elected as a Student Trustee for NASTA.

Personality and Quirks
* Steph is known as the loveliest person in YSTV, mostly due to her ability to make other people happy and her sudden bursts of energy when she’s excited.
* Despite her alleged innocence and intelligence, Stephanie is the un-championed queen of the quotes board, either due to “accidental” sexual innuendos or simple stupidity.

:: <q>Do you want to smell my hole?</q>

:: <q>Every time I put on my watch, it's on a different time... isn't that weird?</q>

* Steph is a horrific driver. This became apparent when she nearly killed German Tom during Summer Ball 2018, where she almost caused a fatal crash due to her inability to turn her bumper car around. As a result, she is permanently banned from driving the OB van.
* Even though she claims to not hate anyone, she does make an exception for Premiere Pro, the bane of her existence.
* Additionally, if you want to make her angry, the only conceivable way is to utter the phrase “Yorkshire is shit”. Steph is so Yorkshire that her favourite weather is rain and wind.
* She has absolutely no problem with getting up as early as 5am, but everything later than 8pm is past her bed time.
* Steph’s definition of a good night is either a drag night out in town or staying at home to watch “Gnomeo and Juliet”
* She can be quite competitive – especially when losing to Edwin in a pub quiz.
* Steph does not drink, very much to the frustration of her fellow YSTV members who constantly try to persuade her to.
* She’s also a vegetarian. In fact, she loves animals so much that stepping on a spider will absolutely maker her cry.
* Her favourite color is yellow, because it makes her happy (Which is why most of her wardrobe is - indeed - yellow)

Katherine joined YSTV in 2016, her second year of studying History and Politics. She would have joined in first year but she was intimidated by YSTV's apparent professionalism (as soon as she actually joined, she realised this assumption was quite funny). Katherine was also inspired to join YSTV on the suggestion of Steven Perring whom she met at a careers talk in first year. She was Vision News Editor in first year but soon realised TV was the superior media in every sense.

At the by-elections at the start of 2016/17 academic year she was elected OB Coordinator, despite not really knowing what an OB was. She then began to go to as many productions as she could and slowly started producing shows (usually with partner in crime Edwin Barnes). Katherine was elected Station Director in Summer Term of 2017.

Katherine can usually be found in the studio, not doing anything in particular. So regularly is she in the studio in fact, often late into the night (Wiki Party being a key example), her housemates have voiced complaints about never seeing her in the daylight. Since YSTV has become her life, Katherine hopes to encourage more members to create exciting new productions as the society continues to grow in size and quality, and dreams of one day working in production management.
}}
Daniel Maher joined YSTV during the 2016-17 Fresher's Fair. Working towards a career as a Director, Writer or stay at home father of a child who'll pay for the sweet Jag he always wanted, Dan studies Film and Television at York from 2016-19. He is a member of Goodricke (the best) college.

YSTV was one of the first societies that he signed up for and the one that he engaged with most heavily. During the first By-Elections (held to fill out committee and officer positions lacking at the beginning of that year) Dan was unanimously voted in as YSTV treasurer (definitely not because he was the only one who ran for it). He was able to retain this position during the AGM and elections of Summer 2017, despite remarkable opposition from Vodka and a series of Tequila shots.

Dan's role in the society is largely administrative; updating the financial spreadsheet, signing off on claim forms, communicating with YUSU and drinking.

Dan is currently pushing for a more ordered financial process; one with tighter communication to create a more involved and streamlined process.

He's also partial to the odd drink.

Treasurer
Dan's continued holding of the position of YSTV treasurer has helped re-orient the societies finances. Although he struggled for a time he tuned into the role and has made steps to improve the financial processes of the society. These include:

*A swanky new financial spreadsheet, with sleeker design and improved formulae
*An improved filing system for claim forms and invoices
*A more tightly regimented manner in which members purchase and claim back items

The position of treasurer has made an interesting connection between Daniel and his 3 month-long hero Alexander Hamilton. Much like Hamilton Dan is not throwing away his shot,
Dan is not throwing away his shot,
Hey yo, He's just like his country,
He's young, scrappy and hungry,
And he's not throwing away his shot.

Productions
Dan only works sparingly on YSTV productions, largely in a supporting or technical role. His work includes:
* Vision-Mixing Children in Need 2016
* Numerous Roles on Tea Time Chat
* Floor-Managing the Studio and Directing and Vision-Mixing OB3 during Roses 2017
* Appearing as a Guest on The Christmas Show 2016
* Presenting the Best Ever Tea Time Chat

Alcohol
Dan drinks. Some say that Dan drinks too much.

On the first YSTV social event of 2016 Dan found himself in the precarious position of having a full pint when everyone else wanted to leave. It was here that Dan downed the pint (a feet never repeated in all of human history) and became known as 'Down-it Dan'. Since then Dan has revealed a fondness for drinking, having a quarter of a bottle of vodka at the 2017 AGM. Perhaps the most notorious alcohol soaked incident concerning Dan was during the infamous Election of 2017. Dan had been drinking intermittently from 4pm, which was compounded by the promise of pizza, tequila shots provided by to-be Commercial Director Raquel Bartra and the awkward events of said meeting. Despite not remebering that night and drinking almost an entire bottle of vodka he still retained his position as treasurer (still nothing to do with his having no opponents). To this day there remains a video of a drunk Dan rapping along to Hamilton.

And you will never find it. (I'm looking at you Edwin Barnes)

Andrew Waddle joined YSTV as one of 2018's enthusiastic Freshers. Known as a self-appointed Head of Camera as well as having a large degree of expertise on After Effects. Finding ways to build graphics into most productions, Waddle also can be accredited for hiding many a blunder in films.

In 2019, Andrew succeeded Tom Lee as Technical Director.

Because of his technical expertise and enthusiasm to improve YSTV, Andrew quickly became one of the station's most involved members, usually working as VFX artist, Sound OP or camera operator (especially for wireless cameras during YSTV Sport and YUSU Elections). Besides that, Andrew also donated his own equipment to YSTV, including a gimbal and a second C100. This generosity enabled members to work on two productions simultaneosly, which proved incredibly helpful at several points throughout the year.

Andrew also tirelessly helped out Tom Lee fix the studio and its equipment. In YSTV does Hunted, Andrew made an on-screen appearance leading his team of fugitives to victory (by sitting around in a field for most of it).

His most recognizable trademark is his laugh, which often rivals even Matthew Zeffertt's, and his very kind and optimistic-yet-pessimistic personality.

He joined Roses 2019 as Head of Visuals and attended 2019. At the YUMAs 2019, Andrew was named the Best Newcomer to student media in York - which he very much deserved.

| hometown = Anwick, Northumberland
| current location = London
}}
Edwin was Station Director from 2018 to 2019, being one of the most active and influential members of his generation. Throughout his three years with the station, he multiplied its membership, improved YSTV's relationship to YUSU, pushed the creative and technical boundaries of YSTV content, improved the visual quality of its videos and led the team to win Best Broadcaster at 2019.

Edwin joined in 2016 as a fresher, and got stuck in quickly with his first producing credit being an episode of Tea Time Chat with Katherine Bell, which they produced together after the original producer dropped out 4 hours before the time of broadcast.

From then on, Edwin stayed busy working particularly on filming, producing and editing, and focusing on increasing the visual quality of YSTV's content, through better use of lighting and in particular the use of better cameras. This led to Edwin successfully pitching the £2000+ purchase of a Canon C100 at the end of the 2016/17 academic year, soon after he became Production Director.

As well as being keen to improve visual quality, Edwin was keen to increase viewership and reach and thus led a push for YSTV to release the majority of its content on Social Media (mostly facebook) alongside its website. This practice was successful and has brought YSTV to a larger audience as a result.

Notable productions Edwin worked on include YSTV's Freshers' Guide to York, a comprehensive guide for new students released prominently on A-Level results day 2017 through YSTV's and the University's social media channels, subsequently reaching over 30,000 views.

Edwin's other main project in his first year was Roes 2017, which he Production Managed alongside Executive Producer Katherine Bell. This Roses was one of the most successful in history, reached a peak of 6 simultaneous livestreams, and brought YSTV together with not just LA1TV but also member from Forge TV, LSTV, LSUTV and NaSTA.

Over Freshers 2017 he prioritised recruitment and visibility, and it was this push that saw many notable members join, including his successors as Station Director, Stephanie Shires and Thomas Schubert.

At YSTV's 2018 Elections, Edwin ran unnoposed for Station Director and subsequently led a newly expanded elected team, up from 16 to 18 roles.

Notable productions Edwin worked on in his second year include YUSU Elections 2018, Roses 2018 and helping Tom Lee with Unibrass 2018.

He was recognized for his work at the Love York Awards 2018, where he won Best Contribution to Student Media.

In his final year, Edwin once again pushed recruitment at Freshers 2018, bringing in more notable and soon-to-be-notable members. A massive prescence at Freshers Fair saw YSTV set up live on Greg's Place, with the feed on the then-newly installed LED screen.

Through the year, Edwin worked on many productions, and helped secured record funding for YSTV, covering the costs of new equipment and notably a new 27TB fileserver, McKellan.

Throughout the year, YSTV Sport became his pet project, for which he took on the role as executive producer. The series of sport live streams was designed to test the station's technical capabilities and train its members for Roses 2019. Other notable productions included YSTV does Hunted, the trip to Malham Cove and Summer Ball 2019 - for all of which he took on the role of editor.

Edwin's time as Station Director ended with a bang, as YSTV won Best Technical Achievement and Best Broadcaster at 2019, and the week after he lead his second home Roses, with Roses 2019 finally coming together after 4 months of Project Group meetings.
At the Love York Awards 2019, Edwin accepted the Best Committee Award and at the YUMAs 2019 the Best Media Group on behalf of all of YSTV.

During 2019, Edwin was also elected NaSTA Chair, and will therefore stay connected with student tv.

A few days after, Edwin chaired YSTV's 2019 Elections, and made an emotional goodbye to his committee, along with fellow leavers Tom Lee, Sam Hance and Kenric Yuen.
